Salty Bird Festival

Get ready to explore the wild birds of Saltville at the 3rd Annual Salty Bird Festival, happening October 2nd – 4th, 2026!

This family-friendly weekend features bird walks, educational programs, learning stations, games and prizes, all celebrating the incredible birdlife found throughout the Saltville Well Fields.

Friday, October 2
Bird Talk: “Bird Diversity in Saltville”
6:30–7:30pm | Museum of the Middle Appalachians
Members of the Holston Rivers Chapter of Virginia Master Naturalists will discuss the Well Fields as an important bird habitat and popular birding site.

Saturday, October 3
Bird Walk & Learning Stations
9:00–11:30am | Food Country Parking Lot
Join Bob Riggs and Elaine Sharpe for a bird walk through the Well Fields beginning at 9:00am. Learning stations with information, games and prizes will also be available throughout the morning.

Sunday, October 4
Bird Walk
8:15–9:30am | Food Country Parking Lot
Members of the Bristol Bird Club will lead a morning walk through the Well Fields. It’s a fun and fascinating experience for the whole family!
